Hazel Steele,  “To Riley”

The Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis, Indiana, October 13, 1913
There are many poems written By men that are brave and true But you are the poet we love best Of all under the red, white and blue. Oh, Riley, I love your poems, And I hope you will listen to mine, For I know you're a friend to the children, And I am just half-past nine.
Added August 16, 2026. Fifth prize for a poetry competition celebrating "the great Hoosier poet, James Whitcomb Riley". JV
