“Obituary Poetry”
The Ligonier Echo, Ligonier, Pennsylvania, January 5, 1916
On December the 8th day
From earth he passed away;
No more his wife's waiting eyes look out
No more his footsteps she will count.
He's not gone from memory,
Not gone from love
But gone to his Father's Home Above.
But when he did descend the pit
His daily bread to earn,
But on he went or little thought
He never should return.
We cannot tell who next may fall
Beneath Thy chastening rod.
One must be first above us all;
Let us prepare to meet our God.
Now his friends have ceased to weep;
The Brother has only fallen asleep.
When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound
The dead will arise from the ground.
